Coastal conditions can be challenging for skin. As cancer lead for Brighton and Hove CCG (2013-2016) I audited the rate of different cancers in the city. I found that our South coast in East and West Sussex has double rate of skin cancer compared with the national average. As a consultant dermatologist, I am recognised by the regulatory GMC to diagnose skin cancers. Dermatology is the only specialty where trainees spend years studying skin cancer.
